2024 Progress: Reaching Your Goals – The Magic Bullet

Josh Dykes

Alright, let’s talk goals. We’ve all been there – the excitement of scribbling down those life-changing aspirations on fancy notebooks and vision boards. Become a millionaire by December 31st? Travel the world on a private jet fueled by unicorn tears? Easy peasy, right?

(Spoiler alert: It’s not.)

Look, I get it. I spent a good chunk of my early coaching career drowning myself in motivational quotes and elaborate vision boards. But here’s the truth bomb you need to hear – those things are fun, but they’re not a strategy.

Want to make a real dent in your 2024 goals? Buckle up, because we’re ditching the woo-woo and diving into the real secret sauce of success: strategic planning and consistent action. (Sorry, there’s no magic bullet, but there’s a whole lot of hustle involved.)

Let’s face it, some of you might be feeling a pang of “shoulda-woulda-coulda” right now. Maybe you spent your 20s and 30s flitting from job to job, chasing the next big adventure on your bucket list. Maybe you’re in your late 30s, 40s or 50s and feeling a little behind the curve, especially when compared to those “figured-it-out-early” types.

Here’s the good news: it’s never too late. You can still make a massive impact on your life, and guess what? You don’t have to wait until January 1st, 2025, to get started.

(Because let’s be honest, most of those New Year’s resolutions fizzle out by February anyway.)

Here’s where the real magic happens – thinking about the big picture. Imagine yourself five years from now. What does success look like for you? Are you coaching a thriving community? Speaking on stages with rockstar status? The clearer your vision, the more focused your actions become.

But hold on, friend, before you get lost in daydreams of future glory, let’s break it down into actionable steps. Here are 3 battlegrounds where the real fight for your goals gets won:

1. The Routine Revolution:

You are a creature of habit, my friend. And those habits, good or bad, are shaping your life. Here’s the key – design a routine that supports your goals. Think of it as your personal success formula.

Maybe it’s a daily morning meditation to quiet your mind, journaling exercises to boost gratitude, or a commitment to reading 30 pages a day. These seemingly small daily rituals, strung together over time, become the building blocks of massive change.

2. The Personal Development Powerhouse:

Stop with the excuses! “I can’t afford it,” “I don’t have the time” – these are just roadblocks on your path to success. Here’s the reality – investing in yourself is the best investment you’ll ever make.

The good news? Learning doesn’t have to break the bank. Free online courses, insightful podcasts, and even second-hand bookstores offer a wealth of knowledge. And yes, while high-quality training can definitely pay off, it all depends on your circumstances.

3. The People Power Play:

“You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with,” goes the saying. It’s truer than you think. The people you surround yourself with influence your thoughts, actions, and beliefs.

Time for an audit! Are your current friends and colleagues pulling you towards your goals, or holding you back? Don’t be afraid to invest in relationships with people who inspire you and challenge you to become the best version of yourself.

Networking groups, meetups, and online communities can be a goldmine for connecting with like-minded individuals. Remember, success is rarely a solo journey.

The Takeaway: Action is Everything

Here’s the bottom line: goals without action are just dreams. Decide which areas – routine, personal development, and your network – are most critical for your future. Then, make a conscious effort this month to implement those changes.

This time next year, you could be looking back at a completely transformed version of yourself – a version that’s closer to your goals than ever before.

P.S. Speaking of personal development, check out Carol Dweck’s book “Mindset.” It’s a game-changer when it comes to understanding how your mindset impacts
